STEPHEN K. COOK
During his 30 years in public affairs, Cook has been a broadcast news correspondent, served two Members of Congress as press secretary and was a senior executive in the world's largest independent public relations firm in Washington and Chicago.
Since 2007 he has provided communications and public relations services to Move, Inc. and other leading corporations and associations in the real estate industry.
Before becoming a consultant, Cook is directed all public relations and external communications for the nation’s largest trade association. He serves as spokesman, managed all media relations and external messaging, including speeches, and helped to manage NAR’s $40 million advertising campaign. He also was responsible for strategic communications planning. In 2006 and 2007, he was named one of the 100 most influential people in real estate.
Cook joined NAR in 1999 from Edelman Public Relations Worldwide where he was a senior vice president in the firm's Chicago office. He was also executive vice president and general manager of Edelman's Washington office from 1982 to 1991, when he left to form Stephen K. Cook & Company, a public relations firm specializing in trade and professional association representation. Four times his public relations programs have earned the highest recognition in the field, the Public Relations Society of America’s Silver Anvil Award.
Cook’s public relations clients have included the American Association of Retired Persons, the US Information Agency, the governments of Greece and Panama, Allstate Insurance Company, the National Apartment Association, the American Resort and Residential Development Association, the US Department of Justice, the Century Council, the Employers Council on Flexible Compensation, the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, and All Nippon Airlines.
In addition to managing national and international public relations programs, Cook has provided media training services to leading corporate, association and government executives.
From 1973 to 1979, Cook served as press secretary to U.S. Rep. Teno Roncalio, D-Wyoming, and U.S. Rep. Berkley Bedell, D-Iowa. He began his career in 1971 as a political correspondent for KTWO-TV and KTWO radio, based in Cheyenne, Wyo.
Cook is a graduate of the University of Chicago, where he was editor of the student newspaper. He is a member of the National Press Club, where he sits on the prestigious Speakers Committee, and the Public Relations Society of America.
