Rucker Building in honor of Indiana Supreme Court Justice Robert Rucker who is a Gary native. The Lake County Commissioners voted in favor of naming the building at 15 W. 4th Avenue after Justice Rucker. The building houses a number of Lake Superior Courts.Commissioner Roosevelt Allen said the February 17th vote, “Was a vote in recognition of the distinguished, exemplary career of Justice Rucker.

Senate committee approves Mrvan bill to halt late property tax bills

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - February 18, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) — The Senate Tax and Fiscal Policy committee unanimously approved a measure on Tuesday that would make changes to the property tax billing process. State Senator Frank Mrvan (D-Hammond), who is co-sponsoring House Bill (HB) 1059 in the Senate, says the measure would provide property taxpayers with proper notice of the tax amount due on their properties and maintain a consistent schedule for bills.

Permanent Property Tax Caps Must Pass Now

December 1, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — During the 2008 legislative session, I voted in favor of House Enrolled Act 1001, which enacted major property tax reform. During the same session, I also voted in favor of Senate Joint Resolution 1, which started the process of placing the property tax caps permanently in our state’s Constitution.
