Congressman Dave Loebsack Urges FEMA to Waive Rent for Temporary Housing Program

Washington, DC - November 3, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Dave Loebsack, joined by the Iowa delegation, wrote to Administrator Fugate, urging FEMA to waive rent for the temporary housing program. FEMA recently granted an extension of the temporary housing program for an additional seven months until June 27, 2010. While this extension allows disaster victims an additional seven months to seek affordable housing, several problems remain within the temporary housing program. Currently, FEMA will charge residents the fair market value of rent, minus certain deductions, which places a heavy burden on many Iowans as they work to recover from the floods of last summer.

Governor Announces Homelessness Prevention and Housing Program Funding

FRANKFORT, KY - September 24, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, along with Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) Chief Executive Officer Richard L. McQuady, today announced the recipients of Kentucky’s Housing and Emergency Assistance Reaching The Homeless (KY HEARTH) Program grant funds. This initiative is part of the national American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 and the federal Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program. Lexington, Louisville and Covington received direct allocations. KHC administers the balance of the state’s portion.KY HEARTH helps prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless and helps those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized. Through the ARRA, 47 projects proposed by nonprofit agencies and local governments across the state are receiving a total of $11,607,352 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“HOPE” focuses on new homeowners, disabled homeowners and the environment. WASHINGTON, DC - September 17, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Congressman John Salazar announced that a federal Hispanic-Serving Institutions Assisting Communities (HSIAC) grant of $599,935.00 has been allocated for Adams State College. The college intends to use the grant to launch the Home Owner Preparedness, including all People, for one Environment (HOPE) program. HOPE is a community-based collaborative project designed to increase economic and housing affordability to youth, provide job training for people with disabilities and organize the community around environmental opportunities.
